Battery Selection Guide For Multi-shift Small Electric Forklift

For warehouses running continuous multi-shift outbound operations, material flow will be interrupted once the forklift stops due to low power. Many buyers only compare battery prices and ignore working condition matching. They end up with insufficient runtime and incompatible charging solutions after purchase. Figure out how to choose battery for small electric forklift to get a proper battery pack.

First, tell the applicable scenarios of lead-acid batteries and lithium batteries. Lead-acid batteries have lower upfront cost, suitable for warehouses with single shift and short daily operation time. The downside is long charging time, about 8 hours for a full charge. Gas releases during charging, so a separate ventilated charging room is required. It is not fit for non-stop continuous work. Lithium batteries cost more at first but support fast charging, fully charged within 2 to 3 hours. Some models support opportunity charging. A quick top-up during lunch break can power the next shift, making it the mainstream option for multi-shift warehouses.

Match battery capacity according to daily working hours. Calculate the daily continuous working time of the forklift and estimate power consumption based on load weight and travel distance. If daily operation lasts more than 6 hours, pick a higher capacity battery to avoid early power depletion.

Under the same voltage, higher capacity brings longer runtime, yet larger size and heavier weight. Small electric forklift has limited space, so you cannot blindly pursue large capacity. Check the installation size of the battery compartment to prevent installation failure or bad counterweight performance.

Pay attention to battery cycle life and warranty terms. For frequent multi-shift usage, the battery charges and discharges every day, and cycle life directly determines service life. Ordinary lead-acid batteries offer about 300 to 500 cycles, and performance drops sharply after around one year of heavy use. Qualified lithium iron phosphate batteries reach more than 2000 cycles, requiring fewer replacements in the long run. Confirm warranty period and replacement terms for defective units during inquiry to avoid low-quality cheap batteries.

Besides, supporting charging conditions matter. Fast charging for lithium batteries requires matched original chargers for safety. Lead-acid batteries cannot be fast charged, and forced rapid charging causes bulging and damage. If there is no separate charging room in the warehouse, maintenance-free lithium batteries are preferred to reduce ventilation and explosion-proof management burdens.

The core demand of multi-shift warehouses is stable non-stop operation. Battery selection should not only focus on unit price. Evaluate runtime, charging conditions and service life comprehensively. We can help you work out a matched battery solution if needed.
