How to Fix Hard Starting of Industrial Diesel Forklift in Winter
If you are wondering how to solve hard starting of industrial fuel forklift when the temperature drops in winter, low temperature thickens engine oil and weakens fuel atomization. Follow these inspection steps to locate faults quickly and avoid work delays.
First, inspect the fuel system. Ordinary diesel tends to wax in low temperatures and block fuel pipes and filters, which restricts fuel supply. Use diesel grade suitable for ambient temperature. Check if the diesel filter is clogged and drain water from the water-oil separator, since frozen water will cut off fuel delivery.

Second, check the lubrication system. Engine oil becomes thicker in cold weather and raises rotating resistance. The starter may fail to reach the required cranking speed. Replace summer-grade oil with proper winter oil and verify the oil level, as insufficient oil increases startup load.
Third, test the power supply system. Batteries are vulnerable in cold seasons. Low temperature reduces battery capacity and weakens starter power. Clean loose or oxidized battery terminals and test battery health. Replace aging batteries in advance to avoid sudden power loss.

Fourth, examine air intake and preheating components. Most diesel forklifts are equipped with glow plugs or intake preheating devices. Failed preheating leads to insufficient cylinder temperature and incomplete ignition. Check preheating circuits and glow plugs. Clean or replace clogged air filters for adequate air intake.
Fifth, check valves and fuel injectors. Poor fuel atomization, dripping injectors or incorrect valve clearance reduce compression pressure and make cold startup difficult. Do not keep cranking repeatedly if these internal faults are suspected, or the starter and battery may get damaged.
Carry out pre-winter inspection and switch to suitable oil and fuel on schedule to cut cold-start failures of industrial fuel forklift. Contact us for genuine spare parts and technical support for complicated faults.
